The Grooviest Grüner Veltliner Food and Wine Pairings
What is Grüner Veltliner?
Grüner Veltliner is Austria’s most important wine grape variety. It is the most widely planted in the country and produces some of the most excellent white wines in the world. Grüner, as it a called, has many different styles from light, crisp, and fresh to richly layered, tropical, and age-worthy. Flavors and aromas include lime, apricot, green apple, slightly floral, and a distinctive peppery, radish, lentil note.
What food does Grüner Veltliner Pair Best With?
Grüner Veltliner is often called a “Sommelier’s Best Wine Friend.” The wine can work with challenging foods to pair with vegetables like asparagus, lentils, and artichokes. Depending on the style, lighter wines work best with raw seafood, simply prepared greens, and light cheeses, while richer Grüner’s can stand up to roasted white meats, sausages, braised fish, and rich, creamy cheeses.
