The Most Rippin’ Dry Riesling Wine Pairings

Published by Admin on

What is Riesling?

Riesling is a white wine grape that grows prominently throughout Germany and Austria and in Alsace in France. Riesling is made in many styles, including bubbly, bone dry, semi-sweet, and dessert level sweet. There’s a popular wife’s tale that ALL RIESLING IS SWEET. Nothing could be further from the truth. The key is to look at the alcohol level on the bottle. Anything under 11% usually will have sweetness. Riesling is known for its high acidity, low alcohol, zippy, fresh texture. Flavors and aromas include bright citrus, green apple, white peach, white flowers, jasmine, high minerality in German wines.

What Food does Riesling Pair Best With?

Because there are so many styles of Riesling, it’s one of the favorite wines for sommeliers to use in pairings. For Rieslings with a bit of sweetness (residual sugar), spicy cuisine such as Thai, Indian, and Chinese do exceptionally well. For drier styles, they go best with fresh vegetables, sushi, and even some white meats like chicken and pork.
